One for a client who had our cake from the Parson's Green Fair on the Green.

She'd asked us to make a cake for her little girl who was turning 7 today AGES AGO. In the midst of quotation and agreements, we lost touch and thought that she wasn't happy with our quote, but she got back to us a couple days ago saying, OH NO!!! CAN'T BELIEVE I'VE FORGOTTEN, PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME!!!!

And we couldn't let a 7 year old girl celebrate her birthday with any old pink cake, so here's what we baked her.

I was never a great fan of Hello Kitty but I have to say it was quite fun making the cake.

For all Hello Kitty enthusiasts out there who want to make this cake, a little tip, Katherine Wheels are perfect for making whiskers, assuming that you're making quite a big cake.

Mr Anthony Shepherd, who thought of our amazing name ♥bakers, finally got his prize.

He'd asked for a very vague 'swedish cake'.

But really we have no excuse for such late delivery of his prize, other than laziness?

And really because he lives with us, it was just so easy to say oh we'll do it tomorrow.. but really, there's no excuse, eh-hem.

So in the end we baked him an experimental, swedish apple cake. Experimental because I'd never made it before, but it turned out just fine, although none of us knew what it was really meant to come out like. Nonetheless, it was delicious and our prize winner was, well, look how happy he is! :)

Thanks again Tony for your brain powers.

Wedding Cupcakes

Two lovely friends of ♥bakers, Sian and Daniel, got married on the 21st of August.

Sian asked us to bake some cupcakes in place of her wedding cake, how exciting! and so we did.

Under her strict instructions we made half vanilla and half chocolate cupcakes and decorated them in pink, blue and white butter cream icing brushed with edible lustre.

We even made some special wheat free ones for the bride's sister, baked in leopard print cases for easy identification.

Congratulations Sian and Daniel :)

A friend of mine came over to London for a visit.

as a ♥baker i thought it only fit for me to feed her something sweet and maybe something chocolaty.

So I made her some individual sized sloppy apple tarts and my very best massive slab of chocolates held together delicately with cookie dough and salt that makes you go haaaaaaaahhahahahaagggh when you have one, if I may say so myself.

Here's a little peek at what she got.

Sneaky little tip for making gorgeous tasting pie, slobber lots of butter on top before it goes in the oven, and it becomes... browned butter which tastes nutty, and above all, amazing!

HOUSE

If you'd been wondering what we were up to for the last couple of weeks as you know we've been supplying our local House Gallery and cafe with some goodies. So no, we haven't stopped baking, but have rather slowed down a bit, because great things are about to happen to the ♥bakers! (Soon to be revealed!)

In the meanwhile here's a couple of very long overdue updates from when we made a lemon tart for house, and some scrummy vanilla cupcakes. Take note of the chocolate brushed layer at the bottom which makes it not only taste amazing but also look really pretty when sliced.

Cupcakes as usual but with some cute casings that ♥baker K has found!

Hello Mr. Frangipane

We took a sample box of cupcakes and brownies to some cafes a while ago, so that they could taste how scrumptious they are and flood us with orders. And it's started to happen!!

House which is a small art gallery + cafe, on Camberwell Church Street, is going to try opening in the evenings, and they wanted more dessert-like baked goods to accompany the new opening hours. So we are going to supply them with a selection of tarts.

We've baked various pies and tarts before but we wanted to try this gorgeous recipe out, for a pear and almond tart, or pear frangipane tart, as I like to call it.

Katie and I couldn't agree on which pear to put in the tart. I wanted to put in conference pears, and Katie wanted to use dessert pears... so we mixed them up. Once poached in syrup they were both squidgy and nice but conference pears came out yellow and transparent, and dessert pears came out more opaque and creamy coloured. But we can tell you that they both work equally well. (or my choice works better)

So next week we'll be baking the same tart for House Gallery for the 23rd, if we can agree on a pear to use. If you're in the neighbourhood, you should pop in and have a slice, and tell us what you think!

Yesterday ♥bakers' friend Rombout turned 27!

A few friends were gathering at a local pub to go to a pub quiz and we combined it with happy celebrations for his birthday. And it wouldn't have made sense if we didn't make cake for a birthday.

Considering how it would have to be eaten whilst a quiz is going on and etc, we decided to make our oh so chocolaty cupcakes, and top it off with some boozy whipped cream made with some mascarpone cheese.

3rd of July, Fair on the Green

This past saturday, ♥bakers were at the Fair on the Green on Parson's Green.

After a whole day of baking on Friday, and a frantic night of packing, Katie left for Finland to go to a wedding, leaving me in charge with very many notes, and her body double/sister, Cleo, to man the stall at the fair.

With half of the ♥bakers missing, I get to upload pictures and ramble on with many a grammatical and spelling mistakes. Hurrah!

Cleo was an excellent sales woman, and you could hardly tell the difference that it was Cleo (not Katie) from the back!

We had many positive feedback from the customers, on the quality of our cakes and the display of our stall! Many returned and brought their friends, and we even had a few customers who remembered us from last year, coming back for more of the raspberry brownies and passion fruit cupcakes.

On the drive back after the fair finished, I had a tray of left over cakes on my lap. When we stopped at a traffic light at vauxhall bridge, a scooter pulled up next to us, and a girl on the back seat spotted the cakes and was pointing and screaming at our cakes. So I rolled my window down and handed one to her! As they drove away, she shouted 'you've made my day!!!'. That's what we like to hear :).

IDE is 30!

For IDE's 3oth anniversary party, ♥bakers made a monster cake (50 x 40 cm) !

Our arms fell off rolling out endless amounts of fondant to cover the cake, but we managed to piece ourselves together with some buttercream icing.

As you can see, we matched it perfectly to the invite that was designed also by a ♥baker!

So.. today Yoon and I set about to making a birthday cake for the magnificent Eleanor Taylor.

We decided on chocolate - because who doesn't like chocolate - and following the success of our chocolate cake at a recent hen-party, we used a recipe for a 10-inch double chocolate layer cake to make a sky-high 8-inch triple layer cake.

We used pink sprinkles to write her age (25) and then added green dinosaurs - climbing all over the cake.

We hope she likes it!
